Dates for youth and open livestock shows have been set for the 2019 Central States Fair. The Central States Fair, which takes place Aug. 16-25, moved the open livestock shows to the last weekend of the fair in an effort to work with the schedules of other fairs in the state and surrounding area.
The dates for the 2019 Central States Fair Livestock Shows are:
Wednesday, Aug. 21
Boehringer Ingelheim Pen of Three Beef Show
Friday, Aug. 23
Youth Sheep, Swine and Goat Show
Saturday, Aug. 24
Youth Beef, Black Hills Gold Beef Futurity, Open Angus and All Other Breeds Show
The Central States Fair offers youth shows in sheep, goats, pigs and beef with approximately $13,000 paid out in livestock premium monies. Youth sheep, goats and swine will be shown on Friday, Aug. 23. Youth beef, Black Hills Gold Youth Beef Futurity, Open Angus, All Other Breeds Show will be moved to Saturday, Aug. 24.
In the past, the Central States Fair livestock shows overlapped with the Wyoming State Fair and local county fairs prior to participating at the SD State Fair. Release times from other shows have raised a concern for families to arrive at the Central States Fair safely for the participant and the animal.
“The Central States Fair livestock committee’s mission is to encourage our future livestock producers through competition and education,” said Kadee Hande, Central States Fair Livestock Coordinator. “By moving the shows we can allow participants multiple opportunities to exhibit their livestock projects at the local, state and regional level, including the Central States Fair.”
All youth shows are sanctioned with the SD Junior Point Show, an organization devoted to promote youth livestock shows in South Dakota. Participants can exhibit in a number of regional shows throughout the year to gain points for state titles.
