The Mountain States Ford Demolition Derby is non-stop entertainment as derby cars crash, boom and bang for a chance to qualify for the finals and $6,000 worth of cash prizes. The Derby is one of the crowd favorites at the Central States Fair as local contestants from the region compete. The Demo Derby is Saturday, August 20 at 7:00 pm in the Grandstand Arena.
The Demolition Derby is open to anyone to participate, all you need is a car, a gutsy driver and a helmet. As the action starts, drivers crash and bang with the intent to make the cars in the field non-functional. As cars become unable to operated the driver of the vehicle surrenders by raising a white flag. The car that is still functional at the end of the heat advances to the finals. The last car standing during the finals is deemed the Central States Fair Demolition Derby Champion.
Drivers must follow general rules to ensure the safety of racers and the public. All glass is removed from the vehicle prior to competition. Drivers are also not allowed to hit competing cars on the driver's side door.
Each year the CSF Demo Derby provides a new and exciting mishap from cars catching on fire, cars flipping and in 2012, "Bubba" was knocked out as a result of an illegal hit. When Bubba regained consciousness, he got out of the car and waved to the audience. The crowd came to a standing ovation and he continued the heat. (check out the picture of Bubba after his wreck in the photo gallery.)
If you like fun and unpredictable wrecks, you are sure to enjoy the CSF Demolition Derby.
